Selection Procedures

Selection Procedures for West Norfolk Branch Pub of the Year, Cider Pub of the Year and Club of the Year Awards

Each year the West Norfolk Branch of CAMRA select a pub to go forward into the National Pub of the Year competition. This is chosen using the process below:-

- Nominations are invited ahead of our branch AGM. At this meeting the four nominations with the highest average beer score over the previous year are selected to go to the next stage.

- Members are then invited to visit all four pubs and judge them using the national scoring system. All scores are required by the Good Beer Guide Selection meeting in February where the result is announced. The winning pub is the one which receives the highest score.

A similar system is used to select our Cider Pub of the Year where branch members are invited to judge the nominations using the national scoring system for the award.

Club of the year is decided by a vote at the GBG selection meeting from those nominated.

West Norfolk Good Beer Guide Selection

The selection of pubs for the Good Beer Guide will be decided at a meeting of branch members shortly before the deadline for the submission of our selections. The choices will be guided by the beer scores submitted for each pub over the last year.

Other factors will be taken into account including but not limited to:-

- Pubs which are likely to change hands in the next twelve months will be excluded. Evidence for this will include advertisements for sale or to let.

- Pubs that have changed hands shortly before the selection meeting and, in the judgement of the members, not had time to demonstrate that they serve beer of a consistently high quality.

- Pubs which have received a low number of beer scores which could lead to questions of overall accuracy.

- Pubs where it seems that there may have been an attempt to manipulate the scoring. Examples include a number of high scores entered by people or their agents with a financial interest in the pub and pubs which have received a number of perfect scores from a person who does not enter any other scores.

- Other relevant information from members.

It should be noted that the selection is entirely at the judgement of West Norfolk CAMRA Branch members, all of whom have the opportunity to enter beer scores, attend the selection meeting and to offer their information and opinions beforehand.
